Theoretical and Practical Parts

The course program takes into account the varying skill levels of participants and adapts topics to individual individuals/groups.

Freehand Drawing - Theory and Practice (Drawing from Observation)

Reinforcement of information on proper work methods (workstation and working methods, methods of framing presented spatial elements, appropriate composition, i.e., the arrangement of the subject matter on a sheet of paper; principles of perspective, proportion, structure, and the construction of solids).

Main Project - Drawing exercise, individual discussions and corrections.

Course Topic: Drawing from Observation - spatial composition using cuboid construction elements and supplementary forms.

Freehand Drawing - Theory and Practice (Drawing from Observation)

Main Project - Discussion of homework assignments during a group presentation of works, drawing exercise, individual discussions and corrections. During the course: discussion of the principles of proper observation of the presented phenomenon and the importance of using chiaroscuro in presenting a drawing subject; principles of aerial perspective, methods of valorization, and the importance of representing various textures. The work is based on the simultaneous presentation of important issues and individual discussions/corrections during the drawing exercise.

Course topic: drawing from observation - spatial composition using various components (solids, fabric, complementary forms).

Freehand drawing - theory and practice (drawing from imagination)

Main activity - discussion of the homework assignment during a group presentation of works, implementation of a drawing exercise, individual discussions/corrections. Presentation of the work topic and discussion of the approach and course of action.

Exercises based on the principles of construction using sample solids (cuboid, cylinder, sphere, cone) while maintaining proper proportions and the principles of perspective, taking into account chiaroscuro; multiple repetitions.

Course topic: drawing from imagination - construction, shaded solids.

Freehand Drawing – Theory and Practice (Drawing from Imagination)

Main activity - discussion of the homework assignment during a group presentation of works, a drawing exercise, and individual discussions and corrections.

Presentation of a sample work topic and discussion of how to approach the issue and the direction of the work.

The assignment involves creating your own spatial composition using selected shapes, maintaining proper proportions and the principles of perspective, including chiaroscuro.

Course topic: Drawing from Imagination – Construction of Shapes / Spatial Composition.

Freehand Drawing – Theory and Practice (Drawing from Observation)

Main activity - discussion of the homework assignment during a group presentation of works, a drawing exercise, and individual discussions and corrections. Developing artistic skills to improve drawing skills, develop imagination, and keen observation of the surrounding reality.

The project is based on the simultaneous implementation of a drawing exercise and the presentation of important issues during individual discussions and corrections.

Class topic: Drawing from observation - spatial composition using diverse structural and textural elements.

Freehand drawing - theory and practice (drawing from imagination)

Main activity - discussion of the homework assignment during a group presentation of works, completion of a drawing exercise, and individual discussions and corrections. The activity is based on developing preliminary concepts for the proposed solution and developing the correct answer to the question. Discussion of the work topic, approach, and direction of work. The main task is to develop one's own imagined spatial situation based on a selected element (small spatial element), multiplied while maintaining the correct proportions and principles of perspective, including chiaroscuro.

Class topic: Drawing from imagination - spatial composition using a small element.

Freehand drawing - theory and practice (drawing from observation - still life/figure)

Main activity - discussion of the homework assignment during a group presentation of works, completion of a drawing exercise, and individual discussions and corrections. Presentation of the work's topic and, in the case of a drawing using a model, the method of representing the figure on paper (framing, proportions, chiaroscuro); preliminary sketches, figure study; value drawing with proper proportions and the principles of perspective, including chiaroscuro.

Class topic: Drawing from observation – still life/figure

Freehand drawing – theory and practice (still life/figure)

Main activity: discussion of the homework assignment during a group presentation of the work, completion of a drawing exercise, and individual discussions and corrections. Presentation and implementation of the topic

The focus is on proper framing, proportions, and chiaroscuro. Preliminary sketches, still life/figure studies; value drawing

maintaining proper proportions and the principles of perspective, taking into account chiaroscuro.

Class topic: Observational drawing – still life/figure.

Freehand drawing – theory and practice (still life/figure)

Main activity – discussion of the homework assignment during a group presentation of works, a drawing exercise, and individual discussions/corrections. Presentation of the work topic and completion of the assignment, taking into account the principles of perspective, proportion, and chiaroscuro. The work is based on the simultaneous implementation of the drawing exercise, discussion of important issues during the class, and individual discussions/corrections.

Class topic: Observational drawing – spatial composition

using diverse structural and textural elements / still life/figure.

Freehand Drawing – Theory and Practice (Drawing from Imagination)

Main activity - discussion of the homework assignment during a group presentation of works, implementation of a drawing exercise, individual discussions and corrections. Presentation of the project topic, approach to the problem, and course of action. The task involves developing one's own imagined spatial situation based on a given topic related to the presentation of a design concept (architectural fragments – interior design elements, small architecture); individual implementation of the task while maintaining appropriate proportions and principles of perspective, taking into account chiaroscuro. The work is based on the development and discussion of preliminary concepts for the proposed solution and the implementation of the appropriate response to the topic, presentation of proposed, simplified projections of a given model, and a drawing visualization in a human-level perspective.

Course topic: Drawing from Imagination – design assignment - spatial composition on a given topic.

Freehand Drawing – Theory and Practice (Drawing from Imagination)

Main activity - discussion of the homework assignment during a group presentation of works, implementation of a drawing exercise, individual discussions and corrections. Presentation of the project's theme and approach and course of action. The activity involves discussing preliminary concepts for the proposed solution and developing an appropriate response to the developed, imagined spatial situation based on the theme and individual implementation of the task, while maintaining appropriate proportions and the principles of perspective, taking into account chiaroscuro.

Class topic: Drawing from imagination – spatial composition on the given theme.

Freehand drawing – theory and practice (still life/figure study)

Main activity – discussion of the homework assignment during a group presentation of the work, completion of a drawing exercise, and individual discussions/corrections. Presentation of the project's theme and implementation of the task, taking into account the principles of perspective, proportion, and chiaroscuro. Course Summary – A joint review of all works – a discussion, guidance on further action, and discussion.

Individual topics may be modified during the program.

The classes are designed to develop imagination, sensitivity, and artistic skills, which will enhance drawing skills and teach insightful observation of the world around us. They deepen knowledge of solid structure, the interplay of light and shadow, and the application of perspective. A series of exercises covers a basic set of tasks, based on which participants can deepen their drawing experience, acquire new skills, and take their first steps in drawing under the guidance of professional, qualified teachers from the Faculty of Architecture at Poznań University of Technology.

Common conversations, corrections, and discussions held during classes further shape creative personalities and build positive relationships within the group.
